Supported Community Ministries

Direct financial support is provided by River Road’s Board of Missions’ annual budget as well as special offerings to help support many associations, organizations, education and advocacy resources.

Annuitant Ministry – Provides financial assistance to retired Baptist ministers, workers and their widows whose regular income is insufficient to meet their needs.

ABP – Associated Baptist Press – Founded in 1990, the first autonomous Baptist news service. A primary source of news of importance to mainstream/moderate Baptists.

BGAV – Baptist General Association of Virginia – Established in 1823; began with three things in common: The Gospel; Missions; Autonomous, cooperative churches. BGAV meets annually unless called into special session.

Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty – One of the nation’s most respected voices on church-state relations.

BTSR– Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond – Moderate Baptist school for training ministers. Close relationship with River Road Church through interns, staff, and faculty, etc.

Baptist World Alliance – Fellowship that supports a global movement of Baptists throughout the world in defense of human rights and religious freedoms. Began in London in 1905 at the first Baptist World Congress, today’s mission is to network the Baptist family to impact the world for Christ.

CARITAS – Churches Around Richmond Involved to Assure ShelterA ministry to homeless individuals and families. Organized in the early 1980’s. Two weeks hosted each year at RRCB.

CBF – Cooperative Baptist Fellowship – National organization of moderate churches and individuals.

CBFV – Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia –Virginia organization of moderate churches and individuals. Mission is to connect free and faithful Baptists in Virginia as they discover and fulfill their God-given mission.

Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies & Virginia Baptist Historical Society –Collects, preserves, and makes available the records of Virginia Baptists.  Founded in 1876; located on the University of Richmond campus

Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia – A non-profit organization providing ministry services in the state prisons and juvenile institutions since 1920.

CrossOver Ministry – A health care (medical and dental) ministry held at several clinics around Richmond for those who have no medical insurance and have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Daily Planet – Comprehensive health services and activities program serving the homeless and underprivileged in Greater Richmond. Provides case management; treatments, job training, employment assistance and Safe Haven, a 20-bed facility that serves the severely mentally ill and dual diagnosed homeless population.

ESL Ministry – English As A Second Language MinistryA joint ministry of Second and River Road Baptist Churches. Facilitated/taught by volunteers from both churches.

HEARTH of Henrico (formerly ISH) – A faith-based organization that exists to develop, to coordinate, and to make readily available financial and other resources of the community so that these resources may directly benefit Henrico citizens whose human needs are unmet by existing governmental services.

Interfaith Council of Greater Richmond – The purpose of the group, which is made up of members from many world religions and Christians, is to develop understanding, respect and cooperation among the various religious groups.

MARCH – Metropolitan Area Resource Clearing House – Provides emergency food for seven food pantries in low income neighborhoods in the City of Richmond.

Micah Initiative – VA partnership program between churches, synagogues, mosques and other communities of faith in metropolitan Richmond and the Richmond Public Schools for the purpose of supporting the education and the nurture of the children of Richmond.

Passport Camps – Interdenominational youth missions’ camps

RBA – Richmond Baptist Association – Organization of Baptist churches in Richmond area organized to do community ministry and strengthen congregations through discipleship training and opportunities.

The Richmond Baptist Trust Fund – It provides assistance to individuals from the metropolitan Richmond area who are residents of Lakewood Manor and in financial need.

VBMB – Virginia Baptist Mission Board – Organization of Baptist churches throughout Virginia for missions’ outreach throughout the state, nation and the world.

VBWIM – Virginia Baptist Women in Ministry – An association of persons, both women and men, lay and professional, who perceive what they do as Christian Ministry, and who seek to provide an avenue for mutual support, encouragement and empowerment.

VIP Care – Virginia Institute of Pastoral Care – Delivers faith-based counseling by pastoral and mental health professionals.
