Making a difference in the lives of those in need, members and groups from River Road Church’s congregation provide direct volunteer support for the organizations listed below. African Christian Community Church (ACCC) – A partnership, along with local churches, to support operating the afterschool and summer programs for children. Tutors and mentors are needed.
Camp Alkulana – Volunteer opportunities are available for all ages and abilities on clean up days. Enjoy a day of work, fun, and fellowship! Camp Alkulana is a year-round ministry of RBA. During the summer they offer a Christian camping experience for inner city children and youth from Richmond. Contact Bill Rusher for more information.
CARITAS – Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure Shelter – Twice a year River Road Church hosts a CARITAS group (homeless individuals and families) of approximately 40 people. Volunteers are always needed for making and serving dinner, preparing lunches, recreation, and much more. Contact Deb Gray or Laurie Gray for more information.
CROP Walk – Communities Reaching Out to People – Each fall River Road Church members walk as a team in the CROP walk. The funds raised are donated to world hunger, part of which stays in our local community. For more information contact Ty Hays.
CrossOver Ministry – River Road Church volunteers staff a Saturday morning clinic at Crossover West Health Center. There are opportunities for mental, dental, clerical and transitional volunteers. River Road Church members also participate in the annual CrossOver Challenge run/walk. CrossOver Ministry provides free health care and promotes wellness at clinics around Richmond for those without medical insurance or have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. ESL Ministry – English As A Second Language Ministry – Volunteer opportunities include teaching, serving as a conversation partner, offer computer training, provide childcare, and provide refreshments. River Road Church teams up with other churches on River Road to tutor adults who wish to learn English. Contact River Road Church Missions for more information.
Food Share – In recognition of the on-going needs of those in our community who are “food insecure,” we collect non-perishable food items year-round which are distributed to food pantries at the Richmond Baptist Centers and LAMB’s Basket. Habitat for Humanity Apostles Build of Richmond – Volunteers help build, paint and clean up (no experience is needed.) River Road Church joins 11 other churches in paying for and constructing a home in the Richmond area. Contact Sid Hays for more information.
Meal on Wheels (FeedMore) – It provides home-delivered meals to seniors, the disabled, and people who are in need.
Micah Initiative – Volunteers from River Road Church go to Oak Grove Elementary School each week to tutor. MICAH partners with communities of faith for the purpose of supporting the education and the nurture of the children of Richmond.
Prison Ministry – The River Road Church prison ministry make monthly visitations offering hope, prayer, encouragement, entertainment and Bible Study for resident youth. Outreach projects and financial support are held throughout the year for venues including Fluvanna Prison for Women, Richmond City Jail, and Assisting Families of Inmates, Inc. Richmond Baptist Centers – There are ongoing volunteer opportunities for tutoring, Bible study, after-school programs, exercise and fitness instructors. Three locations sponsor social and religious programs for children and adults as well as counseling, information and referral services, food pantries and clothing closets. Stop Hunger Now – An international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world. RRCB has participated in this program with other local churches and hosts a day of packaging meals. Contact Austin Clark for more information.
Toolbox Ministry & Renew Crew – River Road Church volunteers offer outreach for church members and church-related projects by providing repair and minor construction. Projects may involve the use of the Mission Outreach Trailer and its tools. Contact Don Powell for more information.
WMUV – Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia – Multiple ministry programs throughout the state, provides summer camping for girls, boys, and youth, and partners with many organizations for mission projects around the world.
