This schedule has changed somewhat throughout this
week and the schedule above is the latest that PH has received.
If one studies this schedule closely, one will notice that Shepson
Bill Simpson is scheduled for four hours and thirty minutes of bell
ringing. Either Bill is obsessed with bell ringing or he is taking
on far too much bell ringing. He could develop tics in his shoulders
and we all want him to be able to ring that bell Sunday morning.
If anyone is free to ring with or for Bill at 5 PM or 7 PM, PH is
sure that Bill would appreciate it.
Missionary Shepsons Charlotte and Bill are challenging
us to help restock the Central Virginia Food Bank. Here is what
they propose:
ARE WE HEARING YOU CORRECTLY? Five or six of
you have told us that you favor our class leading a church-wide
January 2005 campaign on behalf of the desperate Central Virginia
Foodbank. They prefer money at this point rather than actual items
of food because for every $1 they receive from us they can purchase
$14 worth of food. If you give us the go-ahead, we will leap off
the launching pad on January 1st. Checks in support of the campaign
may be made payable to "Central Virginia Foodbank" and
may be turned in to Charlotte and Bill Simpson, who will personally
and promptly take them to Foodbank headquarters.
Charlotte and Bill
Our annual Christmas Social is set for Saturday,
December 11, 2004, beginning at 6 PM at the University of Richmond

$3.25 for a beer and $3.75 for a glass of wine is the tab. Checks

in order to be included is 5 PM on this Sunday. The checks should
be given to Bob, Charlotte or Bill. At the writing of this PHA thirty-four

year.

Remember that RRCB will host Caritas in mid January.
Shepson Rob Brown has been experiencing severe
cervical spine pain since last weekend. Hopefully he is improving.
At least he is not scheduled to bell ring with Donna, Lauren and
Karen this Saturday.
Pastor Mike announced Wednesday night that Dot
Sherman's condition has declined and prayers will be appreciated.
Emily
King informed PH on Wednesday that Alana Woolley's parents flew
into town in order to pack up Alana's things at her house. Beth
Hooker picked them up at the airport and they stopped at a gas station
in order for Mr. Woolley to use a rest room. Mr. Woolley tripped
and fell. He fractured his arm and sustained some head abrasions
or scratches. The Woolley's hope to complete their tasks by this
weekend. Prayers would be appreciated for the Woolley's.
Roger Beck's heart surgery on Wednesday in Florida
went well. Roger Beck is Beverly Beck's brother and a former member
of RRCB and the Chancel Choir.
Bob Tyler's grandson Carter returned to school
this week and has recovered from his scary accident.
Remember in your prayers: Rob Brown, the Woolley's,
Roger Beck, Cecil and Dot Sherman, Peggy Harris and her family,
Kim Williams and her family, Rick and Linda Mears, Donald and Barbara
Deer, Audrey Thomson's sister Sharon Ruben and Sharon's family,
Jared Oliver, Julia Tyler and her parents, Mary and Julian Pentecost,
Kay and Bob Culpepper, John and Margaret Oliver, the Church clergy
and staff, our military and civilians in harm's way, and those only
known to you.
PH got the current Spire
yesterday after weeks of getting it a week late. The Spire indicates
that Teacher Bob will begin at chapter 11, verse one. PH thought
that we were through with the right eye gouging and that Saul is
ready to rule. We will likely get
into chapter 12 where Samuel, the seer, addresses the people. In
this speech Samuel states: "Don't be afraid. "Even though
you have done such an evil thing, do not turn away from the Lord,
but serve him with all your heart. Don't go after false gods; they
cannot help you or save you, for they are not real. The Lord has
made a solemn promise, and he will not abandon you, for he has decided
to make you his own people. As for me, the Lord forbid that I should
sin against him by no longer praying for you. Instead, I will teach
you what is good and right for you to do. Obey the Lord and serve
him faithfully with all your heart. Remember the great things he
has done for you. But if you continue to sin, you and your king
will be destroyed."
PH: These words of three millenniums ago seem just
as valid today.
Joe
Beagle Alvis is actually eight years old on next Wednesday. According
to Miller Joe has spotted an albino deer in his neighborhood, but
Joe has not tracked the deer and cannot yet determine whether the
white deer is a doe or a buck. Attached to this PHA is a
photo of Joe Alvis sniffing for a scent of that white deer.
Also next Thursday Janet and Doug Moyers will celebrate
fifteen years of marriage.
"Most of you do not mark the passing of
time by the Christian calendar, but if you did, you would know
that today is Christ The King Sunday. The year begins with Advent,
the preparation for the birth of Jesus. Then it moves through
the cycle of the life of Jesus until we come to this Sunday; Christ
The King Sunday, on which we celebrate that Jesus is the Christ,
the ruler unrivaled in earth and heaven for all time. This is
a good Sunday morning to talk about Jesus The Christ.
That's
not as easy as it sounds, because every one of us here has her
or his own mental picture of who Jesus is. Some of you think of
Jesus primarily as a teacher, a first century rabbi who left a
body of astute teachings about how we live and relate to God.
Others of you see Jesus more as a revolutionary, a prophetic peasant
who created a movement in reaction to the excesses of first century
Judaism; a movement that caught fire and later institutionalized
into what we know today as the church. Some of you see Jesus as
a holy man, a gentle and devout man who went around doing good,
even miraculous, deeds. Perhaps for most of you, Jesus is The
Christ, God's anointed Messiah whose death on a cross provided
a way for sinful humankind to be made right with God. Though many
of our mental pictures are similar, none of them is precisely
the same. They are pictures we have formed from a variety of sources
across our lives."
PH: Read Samuel, come to Sunday School, arrive on
time, bring your Bible, give an offering, do your memory verse and
stay for Advent II in the worship service. What is your memory verse?
Try I Samuel 11:13. Also the Ordinance of Baptism will occur at
6 PM in the Chapel this Sunday. It is an importance event for those
to be immersed. Pastor Mike writes of it in this week's Spire.
